The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of thunderstorms in northern and eastern districts from Monday to Wednesday. However, Hyderabad is expected to remain dry during this period, according to IMD officials.
On Sunday, Jogulamba Gadwal recorded the highest temperature of the year at 43.1 degrees Celsius. Ten other locations in Telangana also experienced temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, as reported by the Telangana State Development and Planning Society (TSDPS).
The high temperatures are causing troughs or depressions to form, leading to the development of thunderstorms, explained IMD officials. In a statement, IMD stated that the north-south trough/wind discontinuity is currently spanning from north Chhattisgarh to south interior Tamil Nadu, passing through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
As a result, several districts including Kothagudem, Suryapet, Mulugu, Khammam, Nalgonda, Jangaon, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Mahbubabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Asifabad, Nizamabad, and Jagtial may experience rainfall.
